I’m Katie, a homeschool consultant and educator with over a decade of experience supporting diverse learners. I’ve taught in both public and private schools and am a Florida‑certified teacher with specialized training in supporting special needs and gifted students. My background in behavior support, emotional regulation, and executive function scaffolding helps me guide families toward calmer, more connected learning at home.

I also work as a science educator for a nonprofit, designing hands‑on learning experiences for students of all ages. As both an educator and a parent, I understand the real challenges families face and offer guidance that is practical, compassionate, and tailored to each child.

About Me

My Story

Lantern Learning Lab was born from a moment I’ll never forget. I was sitting in my special needs classroom, surrounded by carefully crafted individualized plans — each one thoughtful, intentional, and designed to meet a child exactly where they were. And yet, as I looked around at fifteen students with fifteen unique needs, I found myself wondering how I could possibly deliver the level of individualized education each child deserved at the same time.

That moment changed everything for me. I realized that even with the best intentions, traditional classrooms simply aren’t built for true personalization. I believed deeply in individualized education — not as a buzzword, but as a lived reality — and I saw that the homeschool movement offered families the freedom to create learning environments that actually fit their children. Leaving the classroom wasn’t easy, but it was the right step. I wanted to support families directly, without the constraints of a system that couldn’t bend far enough to meet every child’s needs. Today, through Lantern Learning Lab, I help parents build learning experiences that honor their child’s strengths, support their challenges, and bring more calm, clarity, and joy into their homeschool days.
